I often find that in and out of the art world, there are people who do not necessarily see photography as an art form. When you think of art, you automatically think of drawing or painting; the more “physical” of art forms. My photography takes a step away from the traditional like wedding or portrait photography and challenges those who may not think of it as an art form.
Even when I first began interested in photography in high school, I knew that I could not be satisfied with traditional photography. By seeing a photographer like Lucien Clergue, who took stunning black and white photos of nude female models, I immediately began experimenting with the idea of a human figure as a subject. Instead of just taking photos of the nude figure, I played with light and shadow and how it could compliment and accentuate the various curves of the body. The combination of light and shadow creates a beautiful harmony that I feel, helps dissolve the stigma around nude photography. Naturally, many are uncomfortable around to the idea of nude photography in general. Whether that be to view or to participate in. This can make finding models difficult, but thankfully I have wonderful friends who have helped me in my endeavor to develop my passion and create works that I am so proud of, while being able to show others how beautiful photography and the nude figure can really be.
