BFA in Drawing

Growing up, my parents taught me how to be open-minded and free spirited in the things I enjoy, if it did not negatively affect me. Taking this into account, it molded me into the artist I am today. I experimented with various subjects throughout my artistic career. Initially being an abstract creator, I utilized this characteristic into my most recent projects, developing ranges of imaginative scenarios. Once this imagination sharpened, it led me to create original characters. Another source of inspiration also stemmed from my family being huge movie watchers. We watched every genre of movies, from the thirties to present time. That also applies to shows. I have always watched a lot of cartoons and animations as a child, continuing today. From cartoons, the biggest impression that left me inspired, assisting me into the style I have developed today, was the animation company Studio Ghibli. This studio became an iconic reminder of why I wanted to be an artist, what field I want to pursue. Once it was established, I began my journey.

The journey as an artist started with acrylic paint, creating dream-like pictures and ideas. It soon meshed with oil paint; this being the main medium I utilized for several years. As of now, I have moved into the digital world, taking advantage of programs like Procreate. I started this program last year, opening my talent to new horizons. And due to Covid-19, I have found a new aspect of art, establishing a new love for animations and concept designs on a deeper plane. It became therapeutic, allowing me to release any darkened thoughts and stress that welled up inside. Starting with strokes of colors, defining them with a variety of stylized lines, I found myself completely satisfied.

Other than art, I have been blessed to have my beautiful cat Diamond to take care of. In a way, she was also a source of inspiration when discovering my artistic self. Because of her, I have settled for a theme for my artworks. I wanted to present my cat Diamond in a variety of styles. Despite being a cat, Diamond has taught me a lot during the duration of this pandemic. She has been an emotional support, keeping me grounded and responsible, and helping me grow into the person I am today. With the intention of a story, I want to represent different parts of her, illustrating her pure curiosity in everything she does, particularly with food. Diamond is also quite the daydreamer, always looking off in space for unknown reason.

Capturing these moments would be one of my greatest accomplishments. Displaying these imaginative scenarios, into the idea of possible concept designs, would be the perfect “start” of my long journey. The main medium I use is my iPad Air 4th Generation. Other mediums will pertain photography and possibly print-making. Each illustration will display different perspectives and interpretations of Diamond. Other than my furry friend, you will see showcasing of a couple of original character concepts and environmental designs.
